Cardinal Spellman Students Mission in Jamaica

Today’s topics: Cardinal Spellman Students Mission in Jamaica

Summary of today’s show: While some students look forward to vacation during April break from school, the students at Cardinal Spellman High School in Brockton were heading off to Jamaica, not to the beach resorts, but to orphanages and poor neighborhoods to become missionaries and to serve the poorest of the poor. Scot Landry and Fr. Chris O’Connor are joined by faculty member Jason Deramo and students Dalena Vu, Haley MacQueen, and Melissa DiPillo, who described their preparations for the trip and what it was like to go to a Third World country for the first time, including visiting an orphanage just for children with HIV/AIDS, another for children with handicaps, and digging drainage drainage trenches and doing other manual labor. What most struck them was how loved the children made the American students feel by simply allowing them to love. They also discussed the reality of life in the Third World compared to their own lives.
